Why Choose Bengkung Belly Binding Over Store-Bought Options?
The primary reason to choose Bengkung belly binding over store-bought options is its adaptability to your body's changing shape in the postpartum period. Unlike other wraps, Bengkung binding fits and contours your body perfectly as it transforms over the weeks.
Key Advantages:

-
Custom Fit: Bengkung binding adjusts seamlessly to your body's changes, providing consistent support from the breasts to the pubic bone.
-
Superior Coverage: It covers a larger area compared to most store-bought wraps, ensuring comprehensive support for your entire torso.
-
Adjustable Tightness: You can easily adjust the tightness to your comfort level, making it as snug or as loose as you need.
-
Unmatched Support: The support offered by Bengkung binding is superior, helping stabilize your core and relieve discomfort.
-
Aesthetic Appeal: These wraps are not only functional but also beautiful pieces of art. You can choose to wear them under your clothing or showcase their beauty.
Okay, so it works better, but it looks really hard to learn - and seems like it would be harder to take on and take off. Is it really worth it?
The short answer is yes, it is worth it. It looks difficult, but I will walk you through it. You will learn how to wrap yourself in less than 15 minutes. If you have someone else to wrap you on a daily basis, I will show you both how to do it, so no matter what your situation, this is a do-able! One of the main points of this wrap is to remind you that you need to take care of yourself in your postpartum time. The benefits are greater, and the price point isn't much different. You are worth it!
Why do it?
During pregnancy, your muscles relax and stretch due to a hormone called relaxin, which helps relax the ligaments in the pelvis to prepare for childbirth. This often results in wider hips and ribs.

Wrapping your torso provides complete abdominal support while stabilizing loose ligaments. As your baby moves your hips and ribs out of place with the help of relaxin, Bengkung binding helps wrap it all back together while relaxin is still present, stabilizing and supporting your body as relaxin levels decrease.

More on Diastasis Recti:
Diastasis Recti refers to the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, a common condition during pregnancy. While small separations often heal within about 8 weeks postpartum, more significant separations can persist if left untreated. Studies show that if untreated, the gap at 8 weeks postpartum often remains unchanged at 1 year (Coldron et al 2008, Liaw et al 2011). Bengkung binding can help bring separated abdominal muscles back together by supporting and strengthening the connective tissues and muscles. For those with more severe separation, binding can be a key component of the healing process, especially when combined with other medical treatments like physiotherapy.
When can you start?
For vaginal births: You can start binding during the first week postpartum. It is recommended to start 3-5 days postpartum and, as always, get permission from your care provider first.
For cesarean births: After a cesarean birth it is not recommend to start until after your incision has healed, staples and/or stitches have been removed, and your care provider clears you for wrapping. Typically this is somewhere between 4-6 weeks postpartum.

Miscarriage/stillborn: You can absolutely bind after a pregnancy/baby loss. This can help with your physical as well as emotional healing. The timing still applies to the way you delivered listed above.
How long do you do it for?
Belly binding is most effective during the first 8 weeks postpartum but can be useful for support after that time frame. It's never too late to start binding! It seems to be most effective when done on a daily basis of 8-12 hours a day for about 40 days. You can certainly choose to do it for shorter periods of time, but there is no need to exceed 12 hours a day. Your body needs time to breathe and relax without the wrap in place.
